Imphal, September 02 2015:
Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) and United Manipur Muslim Women's Development Organisation (UMMWDO) have expressed gratitude to the Manipur Government for passing three bills to protect the indigenous people of the state on August 31 .
Paying tribute to late Sapam Robinhood, who was brutally killed by security forces during the ILP protest, the organisations urged the Government to take immediate steps to convert the bills into an act.
The Muslim bodies also strongly condemned the alleged inhumane acts committed by security personnel on the agitators during the Churachandpur violence erupted after the passing of the three bills in the state assembly.
It may be mentioned that many Kuki based organisations had imposed a 12-hour hill bandh on August 31 alleging that the new bills were against the interest of hill people.
Sharing the grief of all the bereaved families of those who had died in the Churachandpur incident, the organisations claimed that security forces have been indulging in killing while controlling public agitations.
The Muslim organisations appealed to all the communities and their leaders in the state to come forward and talk on the ILPS issue so that a positive solution can be brought out.
Manipur is a small state where all the indigenous communities such as Meetei, Meetei-Pangal, Nagas and Kukis have been living together in peace since time immemorial, said the organisations.
The Muslim bodies also urged the people to take extra care while sharing comments on social media on the current issue.
MMWO and UMMWDO also called on all the ethnic groups of the state to remain united and maintain oneness.
The organizations further urged the Manipur Government to initiate an enquiry into the Churachandpur violent incident and take punitive action against those security personnel involved in the killing of civilians.
