Imphal, September 02 2015:
The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has urged the Governor to examine cautiously contents of the Bills which were passed in the Assembly and to return the Bills to obtain the consent and approval of the Hill Areas Committee (HAC).
KIM, in a memorandum, urged the Governor not to give his assent in order to protect, safeguard and maintain status quo.
KIM also highlighted Haipi Declaration adopted during a conclave held at Haipi from Aug 26-29, 2015 to the Governor that any attempt by the Govt of Manipur to enact new laws or pass new Acts which should affect the interest of the tribals in general and Kukis in particular would be opposed.
The conclave also decided to oppose tooth and nail the extension of MLR&LR Act, 1960, similar Acts and amendments in tribal areas.
Any attempt to question the indigeneity of the Kukis by any civil organisation and individuals should be considered as adversaries.
