Purul Union vows forest conservation

Purul (Hiimai) Union has decided to safeguard and conserve the forests and wildlife in its general body meeting held on September 18 at Rasha Hall, Purul village.
The meeting prohibited any wildfire in or near the village and its forests.
It also prohibited the use of firearms, air guns, catapults, traditional animal traps, and electrical fishing mechanisms to hunt or capture wildlife with violators liable to face monetary fines.
Addressing the media, Purul Union president M Heni appealed for support and cooperation by all stakeholders to the decisions made by the villagers.
He highlighted that Purul village, inhabited by the Poumai Naga Tribe in Senapati district, with a population of 7000, has unanimously adopted the resolutions for forest conservation and wildlife protection, in accordance with the Manipur Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.The Purul Union president announced that any individual found violating by setting fire in the forest will be slapped Rs 60,000 fine.
Hunting of wild animals or birds in any form is strictly prohibited.
Violators will incur a fine of Rs 20,000.Moreover, hunting tools or weapons will be confiscated.
Use of batteries, dynamite, chemical, natural herbs or explosive for fishing is strictly prohibited, with violators liable for Rs 20,000 fine.
Any outsider or non-resident of Purul village caught hunting, killing wildlife within the jurisdiction of Purul will also be fined Rs 20,000 and have their tools or weapons confiscated.
Informers or reporters will be rewarded with half of the collected amount, with their identities kept confidential.
The Purul leader appealed for cooperation and support in enforcing the measures for the benefit of all.
