With business transaction hit hard in Khwairamband market following restriction on entry of vehicles as part of the security measures taken up following the bomb blast at Babupara on May 14 and recovery of explosives from near the Pologround where the Governor was to pass through on the same day, a joint emergency meeting of the Bazar community was convened at Hotel Anand Continental here this evening.

The meeting of the Bazar community assumes significance in the light of closure of 13 shops in Allu Galli area near Panchatantra Building from this afternoon in protest against harassment meted out to the customers by security personnel while coming out after making purchases on rickshaws or Thelas even as the number of customers coming to shop has been dwindling giving a negative impact on business transactions.
With the possibility of other business units following suit, the emergency meeting of the Bazar Community attended by representatives of around 100 business units and shops dealing in various trades was convened.
After a serious deliberation on the issue, the meeting decided to lodge strong protest against banning entry of vehicles in the market area.
The meeting also decided to approach the Government in this connection and highlight the difficulties being faced by the shop-keepers and the customers alike.
Furthermore, to strengthen the functioning of the Bazar Community, the meeting approved joining of 23 new members and reconstituted the Bazar Board along with electing Amrik Singh Pahwa as president, Shyamsunder Gupta as vice president, Shanti Jain as secretary, Suresh Jain Patni as joint secretary and Shanti Bagdas as treasurer.
Talking to mediapersons after the meeting, newly elected Bazar Board president Amrik Singh Pahwa informed that the representatives of the Bazar Board would be meeting SP Imphal West on May 31 at 11 am to discuss the present situation and in case no amicable solution could be arrived at, as last resort the Bazar Board would approach the Governor.
