CM calls for joint effort to make NEP successful

The Manipur Government has reduced the summer vacation in schools from three weeks to one week to make up for academic time lost due to disruptions caused by the recent law-and-order situation in the State, said Chief Minister Y Khemchand.
He made the statement during the inaugural ceremony of a three-day workshop titled "Reforms in School Education of Manipur: An Approach to Implementation, Challenges and Opportunities of National Education Policy 2020," held today at the City Convention Centre, Imphal.
The workshop was organised by Vidya Bharati Shiksha Vikash Samiti, Manipur.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand quoted Nelson Mandela, stating that educa tion is one of the most powerful tools for changing the world.
He emphasized that NEP 2020 outlines key responsibilities for the education sector in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 .
The Chief Minister highlighted that introducing education in a child's mother tongue as the medium of instruction up to Class V would help students learn more effectively and at a faster pace.
He expressed hope that the workshop would contribute meaningfully to the successful implementation of NEP 2020.He also referred to administrative adjustments made in the State due to the prevailing law and order situation, noting that the summer vacation had been reduced from three weeks to one week.
He said that normal functioning of educational institutions and Government offices was disrupted for nearly a month following the Tronglaobi incident.
As a result, Saturdays were declared working days for all Government departments to compensate for lost working time, and would be restored as holidays once pending work is completed, he said.
On NEP 2020 implementation, he stressed that responsibility does not rest with the Government alone, but requires collective effort from employees and citizens.
Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, speaking at the event, said that India aims to become a developed Nation by its 100th year of independence under the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 .
He described NEP 2020 as a key driver in this journey, with teachers and education stakeholders playing a crucial role in shaping the country's future.
Professor Ganga Prasad Prasain, president of Vidya Bharati Purvottar Kshetra, suggested that from Class VI onwards, students should be introduced to skill development and vocational education alongside regular academic subjects.
The function was also attended by Keishamthong AC MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam; Prof W Chandbabu Singh, Vice Chancellor of Dhanamanjuri University; Prof P Gunindro, Vice Chancellor of Manipur University of Culture and Ningthoujam Geoffrey, Commissioner for Higher and Technical Education among others.
