Gyanendro murder: Road blockade continues

Imphal, August 19 2013: Decrying the murder of van driver Okram Gyanendro, Imphal-Moreh was blocked today too in Singjamei area while the Imphal-Moreh Road Transporters' Union has announced to launch hands-off steering stir from tomorrow.

Groups of people set afire tyres on the middle of the road and blocked Imphal-Moreh highway since this morning.

In the meantime, a joint meeting of youth clubs and civil organisations operating between Singjamei and Kakwa was held today where a joint action committee was constituted.

Subsequently a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister.

Moreover, a large number of people took out a protest rally starting from Singjamei Okram Leikai.

The rally was, however, blocked by police at Yumnam Leikai where the protesters were joined by PHE Minister I Hemochandra.

Road blockade continues at Singjamei

Later, some JAC representatives along with Hemochandra were allowed to proceed towards the Chief Minister's office as intended and demanded by the protesters.

The memorandum demanded that all the culprits involved in the murder of Gyanendro should be booked within three days.

The Government should give detailed accounts of the two electronic devices reportedly recovered from Gyanendro's van.

The corpse would not be claimed during the next three days, the JAC highlighted through the memorandum.

Gyanendro was shot dead by some unidentified persons at Narankonjil Palli under Wangoi police station in Imphal West district yesterday afternoon.

Gyanendro alias Godhadhor is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Police earlier claimed that two electronic circuit boards used in improvised explosives devices were found fitted in a toy car and toy bus found inside Gyanendro's van.

Meanwhile, taking strong exception to the cold blooded murder of Gyanendro, the Imphal-Moreh Road Transporters' Union has decided to launch an indefinite hands-off steering agitation from 5 am tomorrow facts and circumstances about the murder are established.

Ng Haridas of the union urged the authorities concerned to book the culprits at the earliest and provide adequate compensation to the bereaved family.

The union, while sharing solidarity with the bereaved family, observed two minutes' silence at Yaiskul Hicham-Yaicham Pat parking this morning in honour of the departed soul.

The All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers' Union too has condemned the murder of Gyanendro in the strongest term.

The union also pledged full support to whatever steps taken up by the JAC for the sake of justice.
