Imphal, January 14 2026:
Going on the offensive against the Government of India for its unwillingness to resolve the crisis, AMUCO and four other civil bodies have threatened to launch an intense agitation.
The Government of India has not yet taken any steps to resolve the crisis and bring peace.
Its lack of accountability is an invitation for a massive and intense agitation by the public, said AMUCO president Sorokhaibam Sanjoy, speaking to media persons at the committee's office at Kwakeithel.
"AMUCO and its partner organisations are prepared, and ready [to launch the agitation], if the Government continues to ignore the plight of the people," he said.
Sanjoy said, the Government of India shall bear the sole responsibility for the protracted crisis, and failure to restore normalcy and peace in the State.
It has neither resolved the conflict nor taken any steps to address the plight of the internally displaced persons, he said.
Instead of working toward bringing unity among communities, the Government of India has "polarised" the people on ethnic line, Sanjoy said, accusing the GoI of behaving like a "colonial power" .
The Government of India, through its divisive policies, has divided the people of Manipur on ethnic line, he said.
Since Manipur's merger with India in 1949, its people have suffered one form of atrocities or the other, he said.
"Black laws" were imposed in Manipur, and because of it, people witnessed numerous cases of fake encounters, rapes and torture of civilians, he said.
To effect its divisive policies, the Government of India has promoted push for individual interests among communities, sowing seeds for conflicts, Sanjoy said.
As a result of the Government of India's divisive policies and ethnic polarisation, Manipur has seen many conflicts, deaths and destruction of the people and their properties, he said.
The present conflict broke out on May 3, 2023 .
Even after more than 2 years, the Government of India failed to resolve it.
It has also not addressed the issue of internally displaced persons and their grievances, Sanjoy said.
The Government of India not taking any steps to resolve the conflict is akin to an "attempt to erase or disintegrate Manipur," he said.
The Government should not invite or wait for the wrath of the public.
It shouldn't support groups which seek to disintegrate Manipur, he said.
If the Government of India continues to ignore the plight of the people of the State, AMUCO and its partner organisations, along with the people, will launch intense agitation, he said.
The press meet was jointly organised by five civil bodies, including All Manipur United Club's Organisation (AMUCO), Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, Committee on Human Rights (COHR), All Manipur Women Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) and Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) .
