The first intermittent firing was reported from 4.30 am to 7.30 am Wednesday and the second from 4pm which continued till late evening.
Eyewitnesses informed about presence of several bunkers of Kuki militants across Sekmai river in Luwangsanggol.
Meanwhile, a Kanglatongbi Meira Paibi member said that the Kuki militants holed in in the aforementioned bunkers started firing at the Meitei villages nearby, while condemning the AR for helping the Kuki militants under SoO.
Meira Paibi activists of Kanglatongbi area also organised a sit-in protest denouncing alleged partisan attitude and conduct of Assam Rifles and demanding them to protect Meetei villagers like they do for Kukis.
The protestors blocked the road holding the Tricolour and organised the protest.
One of the protestors alleged that Assam Rifles do not see the Meetei villagers as citizen of India and they are biased in protecting the lives and properties of people.
Instead of protecting the public, they are seemingly supporting the Kuki militants, which the public cannot accept, she said while demanding the government to issue necessary instructions to Assam Rifles to protect the villagers of both side.
