Situation tense in some places : PCR

The Police Control Room (PCR), Manipur Police has stated that situation in some places is tense with reports of sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of unruly mobs during the last 24 hours.
During the said period, State police and Central forces conducted search operations in vulnerable and fringe areas of both the hills and the valley districts.
There was intermittent exchange of fire between unknown miscreants at a hill range above Langza village near Khoijumantabi yesterday.
Police and Central forces launched operations in the area and the armed miscreants were repelled, said PCR.
An unruly mob of about 3500-4000 people stormed Heirok police station and took away some arms and ammunition which included exhibits.
The district police along with Central Forces fired several rounds in the air to disperse the mob and prevented further damage to the police station, it said.
Intermittent firing between unknown armed miscreants was also reported today at Luwangshangol/Phaileng area adjoining Imphal West and Kangpokpi districts but the situation was controlled with the intervention of Central forces, it said.
Four bunkers in Kangpokpi, Imphal West and Churachandpur districts were destroyed today by a combined team of Manipur police and Central security forces.
Demolition work of bunkers built in fringe areas is also underway, it said.
About 124 nakas/checkpoints were installed in different districts and checking has been intensified round the clock.
250 persons were detained for violating curfew, it said.
Yesterday, a self-styled army chief of a proscribed outfit was arrested at around 8.20 pm yesterday from the jurisdiction of Porompat police station and a case has been registered at the police station for investigation, it said.
Appealing to the general public to extend all possible help in bringing normalcy in the State and dial - 9233522822 to clarify any rumour, the police control room also urged all concerned to return and deposit arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or security forces immediately.
