Bishnupur, July 05 2023:
The ethnic violence in the state continues to haunt farmers of Bishnupur district that they fear of carrying out agricultural activities near the foothills.
The fear compounded on Wednesday near an agriculture field south of Bishnupur Municipal Council waste dumping site, when three persons tilling their land using tractor fled for their life after spotting an armed person descending from the nearby Chaibi village.
The three persons, namely Thokchom Jiten (60), Kha Potshangbam, his son Th Ajitkumar (33) and a relative Oinam Ronitkumar (27) of Toupokpi saw the armed man coming from Chaibi side around 10 am on Wednesday, after which they hid in nearby bush.
Later after contacting Nachou Gram Panchayat ward member, a team of Bishnupur commando unit and police rescued them and their tractor from the area.
Speaking to media persons, one Thoudam Mem-ton of Kha Potshangbam Maning Leikai claimed that on visiting the said foothill area she also saw two armed persons with red bandanas tied on their head.
On the other hand, Th Jiten appealed to the government to deploy security personnel in the foothill areas to protect the farmers.
