Imphal, June 26 2013: In an effort towards spreading the knowledge and awareness on the problem of HIV and AIDS among the people, 28 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR South joined hands with other Government and non-governmental agencies in organizing a health seminar on the theme of 'Avoid the Scare, Be Aware' at Kakching today.

Various eminent speakers including prominent doctors expressed their views on a wide spectrum covering topics like Changing Scenario of AIDS, Stigma and Discrimination, the nexus of Drugs, HIV and AIDS, Role and Challenges of Media and Alternative Cure from AYUSH, etc.

The seminar was inaugurated by Maj Gen Rajeev Chopra, IGAR(S) and was attended by various civil dignitaries including former Project Director of MACS Dr Pramod Kumar Singh; Asst Prof Dr S Gojendra Singh of Psychiatry Dept, RIMS; Deputy Director (ICTC & STI), MACS Dr Seram Meena Devi; Microbiologist Dr Y Gopalkrishna, Director of STDC/IRL, Manipur and Satyajit Usham, Editor of Hueiyen Lanpao (English edition).

In addition, apart from a large number of students from various colleges of Thoubal and Chandel District also attended the seminar.

Apart from lectures by resource persons, thorough discussion on various issues related to HIV and AIDS and answering the questions raised by the audience by an eminent panel were main highlight of the seminar.
