Nurse rescued; woman found dead

Imphal/Thoubal, July 15 2023: Thoubal district police safely rescued a female nurse, who had been abducted by unidentified persons from Nongpok Sekmai PHC under Nongpok Sekmai PS on Saturday morning.

The nurse identified as Akoijam Chucheta of Cha-rangpat Mayai Leikai is an ANM at the PHC.

Briefing media persons at his office on Saturday, Thoubal SP Soibam Sachidananda informed that around 10.45 am, one Laishram Anita Chanu hied a report stating that a woman has been abducted by unknown persons at about 10.30 am.

Based on the complaint, the district police launched search and received inputs that she was being held captive in Sora area of Kakching district.

The police team immediately rushed to the location but found that the abductors had dumped the woman in Sora Machin before fleeing from the area.

After questioning the woman, a case was registered at Nongpok Sekmai PS and an investigation initiated, the SP conveyed.

Meanwhile, on receipt of report that a nurse working in Nongpok Sekmai PHC has been abducted by miscreants in a van under the guise of dropping them off at Pal-lel, a large number of people from Charangpat along with the woman's natal family and from Yairipok Laimanai thronged the SP's office.

However, the crowd dispersed on being informed that the woman has been safely rescued.

Meanwhile, body of a female has been found at Keibi Heikak Mapal Ekop Ching (hill) under Sagolmang police station on Saturday afternoon.

On receiving report of discovery of the lifeless corpse at Keibi Heikak Mapal Ekop Ching around 3pm Saturday, a team of Sagolmang PS along with Imphal East district police team arrived at the scene and conducted preliminary investigations as a mobile forensic team conducted an inquest of the body, following which the body was shifted to JNIMS morgue for necessary process.

According to a police report, the deceased woman likely to be in her 40s seems to have been shot to death.

Sagolmang PS has registered a case in this regard.
