IGAR-designate bats for return of Meeteis to Moreh

Imphal, February 12 2024: Inspector General Assam Rifles (IGAR-South) designate Major General Ravroop Singh has said that the Meeteis who fled Moreh due to the violence should be called back to live together with other communities settling in the border town as in the past with peace and harmony.

Maj Gen Ravroop Singh convened a meeting with community leaders at IB of Assam Rifles at Moreh from Ham Monday.

Representatives of Moreh-based Hill Tribal Council, Tamil Sangam, Manipuri Muslim Council, Gorkha Samaj Samiti, KSO and Kuki Women Union & Human Rights, and leaders of other communities settling in the border town attended the meet.

While recalling that different communities used to settle in the border town with peace and harmony while he was posted as CO of 31 Assam Rifles some years back, Maj Gen Ravroop Singh advised the community leaders present at the meeting to bring back peace and harmony prevalent when he was posted in the border.

He also called upon community leaders to do the needful for return of the displaced Meeteis and live together again in peace and harmony.

He also told the community leaders that he will return back after 15 days and assess security situation of Moreh with the people of the border town.

During the meeting, rep resentatives of Kuki Women Union & Human Rights, Moreh raised the demand for removal of police commando being deployed in front of SBI Moreh branch building so that no disturbance is given to movement of people as a representative of Tamil Sangam Moreh suggested relaxation of curfew period from 6am to 6pm so that schools could reopen and students continue their studies.
