Only BJP matters to Government, charges O Joy

Imphal, December 14 2023: Veteran politician Okram Joy has accused the State Government of not putting any efforts to protect the unity and integrity of Manipur and worrying only about the image of the BJP.

Speaking to the media at his residence at Kakwa today, O Joy said that it is the people, CSO leaders, women activists who have been at the forefront to keep the State intact while the State Government has been focusing only on clinging to the seat of power.

He said that there, however, are some organisations which side with the State Government to safeguard BJP and its Ministers, MLAs and leaders.

It is only the Centre and the State Government which can restore normalcy in Manipur, the veteran leader reminded.

People of Manipur don't want the violence to continue, O Joy continued and urged the Centre to work out a solution to end the conflict at the earliest.

Saying that the Cabinet should take a decision to withdraw Assam Rifles from Manipur, he asked the Government not to turn a blind eye to the wrongdoings of the security forces.

There is a geo-political factor which triggered the violence in Manipur which doesn't benefit anyone, he reasoned.

Condemning the massacre at Leithao in Tengnoupal where 13 Meeteis were brutally murdered, O Joy said that the December 4 incident at Leithao was a genocide and it must be condemned by one and all.

O Joy said that he along with some other politicians met the Governor at Raj Bhavan yesterday and requested the latter to take a report of the Leithao incident from the Government.

He said that they also urged the Governor to play a key role in restoring normalcy in Manipur during the meeting.

O Joy went on to state that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should acknowledge what has been happening in Manipur since May 3 in a similar way he spoke about shunning violence whenever there is conflict in any part of the world.

Saying that the BJP Government at the Centre and the State have not taken any action against 10 Kuki MLAs who endorse the demand to disintegrate Manipur, O Joy accused the BJP Government of protecting the Kuki MLAs.
