Ukhrul gets three new Sabji Mandis worth ₹4.5 Cr

UDCRMS Ukhrul is championing the efforts to provide market space to local farmers, entrepreneurs and traders iff Ukhrul district.
Towards this end, UDCRMS has constructed three Sabji Mandi/Marketing Complexes in Ukhrul town.
The new market complex com prising Block-A, Block-B and Block-C that have come up at Wino bazaar and Viewland bazaar, was inaugurated by Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah.
"This project is funded by the North Eastern Council, Shillong and through this we aims to create a market place that caters to those seeking to sell their products, such as farmers, young entrepreneurs, and makers of value-added products at the right time, at right place and at right price," said District Project Director (DPD) of NERCORMP/UDCRMS Lily Rose Jajo, while speaking during the inauguration on Thursday.
She continued that the goals of the project are to not only promote the marketing sector, but also to provide direct and indirect employment to rural areas of the district.
"This will create a market place where young entrepreneurs can easily access potential customers, and so easily generate their own business activity.
It will also be a place where local tourists can conveniently purchase local products, and where locals can access more shopping opportunities," she said.
She expressed hope that the new facilities would enable economic development, provide employment to rural areas of Tangkhul, and generally improve the business climate of Ukhrul.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Ukhrul DC Zuringla Kengoo, Ukhrul SP Ningshem Vashum, Ukhrul District Supply & Marketing Cooperative Society Limited president Ayok Shatsang; Western Tangkhul Naga Education Fund Conference president Wungkhayap Zimik and others.
She further informed that the plots for the three complexes were donated by Ukhrul District Supply & Marketing Cooperative Society Limited, Tangkhul Naga Long and Western Tangkhul Naga Education Fund Conference respectively.
The project was initially approved during the tenure of retired IAS Ameising Luikham and was officially sanctioned by Ram Muivah during his stint as NEC secretary to get the complexes up and running.
The total cost of the three Sabji Mandi/Marketing Complexes is estimated to be Rs 4.5 crore and the project is for the benefit of the entire district.
