CCpur, August 19 2023:
The Joint Student Body (JSB) comprising the Zomi Students Federation (ZSF), Kuki Student Organisation (KSO) and the Hmar Student Association (HSA) conducted a massive rally demanding clarification from the Union Home minister Amit Shah over his statement on the floor of Parliament that the present crisis in Manipur is due to influx of illegal immigrants.
The rally, which kicked started from Churachandpur public ground from 11:30 am proceeded towards Tipaimukh road, IB road and along Tedim road, culminated at the Wall of Remembrance where a public meeting was held.
The rally also demanded valid proof and evidence of the claim made by the Solicitor General of India that the dead bodies deposited at the RIMS and JNIMS mortuary are those of illegal immigrants.
The protesters also condemned the filing of FIR against the Kuki Zo tribal intellectuals and leaders as an attempt to silence their voices.
The JSB also submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the DC Dharun Kumar seeking his intervention over the "Unending attacks on the minority Zo ethnic tribes of Manipur (Kuki-Zomi/Mizo communities) by majority Meitei communities".
The memorandum also highlighted the Kuki people's love for India and celebration of the Independence Day on August 15 which the state government alleged that the village volunteers contingent were narco-terrorists who displayed sophisticated arms during the march-pass which is not true.
The Meitei terrorists killed three Kuki-Zomi village volunteers in Thowai kuki village on August 18 and despite the blockade on national highway lifted, the Meiteis did not reciprocate and block entry of goods and medicines to Churachandpur and other Kuki-Zomi areas, the memorandum alleged.
