Imphal, August 19 2026:
The Manipur Government Higher Secondary Lecturers' Welfare Association (MGHSLWA) has urged the State Government to defer all Census-related training and field duties assigned to teachers, citing safety concerns amid the ongoing "No NRC, No Census" agitation.
In a press release, the Association expressed "grave concern and a deep sense of dilemma" over deploying teachers for upcoming Census training and enumeration work in the current socio-political climate.
Stating that teachers have always discharged official duties with sincerity, MGHSLWA said the present situation has put them in an "untenable position" - caught between administrative directives and stiff opposition from Civil Society Organisations demanding that the NRC be completed before the Census.
The Association warned that facing public non-cooperation and hostility during house-to-house enumeration would jeopardize teacher safety and administrative feasibility.
"It unfairly traps educators in the crossfire between the State and the public", the release stated.
MGHSLWA has appealed to the State Government to immediately put on hold all Census-related training and field duties for teachers until an amicable consensus is reached through dialogue with the agitating CSOs.
"We strongly urge the authorities not to make educators scapegoats in this administrative deadlock and to ensure a safe, cooperative environment before resuming field operations", the Association added.
