Murder case of Satyabhama : Gaping holes picked in DGP's statement

Imphal, April 10 2013: Maintaining that it would be impossible to take Satyabhama's lifeless body on a two-wheeler like a Mahindra Rodeo till Bashikhong Loumanbi paddy fields, the women committee of the United NGOs Mission Manipur has demanded a thorough investigation into the murder case of Ningombam Satyabhama.

Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, convenor of the Committee Radhapiyari remarked that the DGP's statement on the murder of Satyabhama was ridiculous and confusing.

The DGP's statement only fuelled more suspicion among the public on whether something is still kept concealed.

It is hard to believe that Biju alone killed Satyabhama who was 5'6" in height and weighed around 80 Kgs and disposed the corpse at Bashikhong Loumanbi paddy fields after bringing it there on a two-wheeler.

It sounded impractical and suggests that police may have been concealing and protecting some key accused in the murder case of Satyabhama.

The DGP's statement did not mention the exact place and time where Biju killed Satyabhama.

Biju called out and took Satyabhama to Singjamei Keithel where James, Jibon and Ashok were waiting for them in a car.

Inside the car, James beat up Satyabhama following which Satyabhama jumped down and ran away.

But she got hooked to the car and got killed because of it.

This was the statement given by Biju to police before the arrest of James as stated by the DGP.

However, Biju gave a totally different statement after the arrest of James.

According to the second statement, Biju called out Satyabhama at about 1 am of April 3 through mobile phone.

From near Satyabhama's house, Biju purportedly took her to James' house on his Mahindra Rodeo.

On the way, Biju made sexual advances towards the girl which was stiffly opposed by the girl leading to a scuffle and ultimately her murder at the hands of Biju.

Pointing out the contrasts between the two statements given by the same accused, Radhapiyari asserted that the two statements need to be cross-examined thoroughly.

Another convenor of the committee Sobita Mangshatabam Sobita Mangshatabam remarked that the DGP's statement which seemed to be suggesting that the case has been solved with the arrest of James, Biju and Jibon smacked utter irresponsibility.

She alleged that James is the mastermind in the murder case of Satyabhama.

Biju, James and Jibon are accused not culprits.

As such, the case demands a thorough investigation.

It was wrong that no forensic expert was present when Satyabhama's corpse was retrieved.

She also appealed to the family of Satyabhama to give correct statements without concealing anything.
