In a statement, Aram Pamei, the co-chairperson of the two bodies, said "CCDD and CPNRM would further like to express our concern that the Government of Manipur has chosen to ignore and disrespect the directives of the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India issued in December 2006 and again on August 23, 2013 to stop construction of Mapithel Dam for violating India's forest laws under the Forest Conservation Act, 1980 and under Forest Rights Act, 2006 .
