Assam Rifles says two, but police says only one

Imphal, July 07 2013: In an interesting development, Assam Rifles have claimed to have arrested two women overground workers of PREPAK (Pro) while Imphal East district police said only one woman PREPAK cadre was arrested, although the joint operation launched is the same.

According to a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S) today, based on specific information regarding movement of UG cadres from Yumnam Khunao village towards Pangai for delivering ammunition to unknown persons, troops of 16 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector AR under aegis of HQ IGAR (South) reportedly launched an operation and apprehended two female OGWs of PREPAK (PRO) yesterday.

Identifying the arrested two woman OGWs as Mayanglangbam Victoria Devi alias Jamdupati (40) W/o M Loken Singh of Top Kongpal Naoriya, Imphal East Dist and Thounaouam Pep Devi (36) D/o Th Shanghai of Wabagai Keirak, Thoubal Dist, PRO informed that three Chinese Hand Grenades were recovered from their possession.

The statement of the PRO which did not mention anything about the presence of Imphal East district police in the said operation, further informed that during the course of further interrogation, it was revealed that more arms and ammunition were dumped in village Ishing Thenbi of Sagolmong.

Based on the information, a follow up operation was launched and it resulted in recovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunitions including two Carbines with magazine, one 9mm Pistol with two magazines, nine rounds of 9mm Pistol, three Lathode Shells, six Chinese Hand Grenades, six Detonator and one live round DAC43W-II. The apprehendees alongwith the recoveries were handed over to Sagolmang Police Station, the statement of the PRO added.

However, in a separate statement, SP Imphal East district informed that a team of Imphal East Commandos and a party of 16 Assam Rifles conducted a search operation at Yumnam Khunou under the supervision of M Rajen Singh, Additional SP (Ops) and arrested one active member of PREPAK cadre namely Mayanglambam Ongbi Laishram Victoria Devi alias Jambupati (40) w/o M Loken Singh of Kongpal Naoriya from Yumnam Khunou Ishikha along main road in front of VDF post.

On verification, Victoria stated that she is an active member of PREPAK working under one Ibungo.

Three hand grenades wrapped with carbon papers containing in a polythene bag and a Nokia Mobile phone fitted with one Vodafone SIM card were found in her possession, the SP added.
