Various social organisations commemorate Nupi Lan Day in state

Imphal, December 12 2014 : Stressing the need for a serious introspection in the present trend of observing the Nupilal Day, College of Social Work Principal Dr RK Romiobala on Friday urged the need for target oriented theme-based observance of the day.

She was speaking as resource person at the observance of Nupilal Day organised by Beneficial Club Meitram in association with Nehru Yuva Kendra Imphal West at Meitram Awang Leikai. Though the state has been observing the day with special emphasis on role of women in the society, crimes against women are rising tremendously.

Women today are enjoying a higher status than those during the British rule.

However they are becoming victim of gender crimes every now and then.

With the increasing rate of gender crimes, one should not only wait for outside intervention but should also ponder upon the role of women in checking such crimes, she said.

Dr Romiobala further said that mothers play the most important role in bringing good discipline among the children.

While parents should be the best and intimate friend for their sons or daughters, most of the parents in the Manipuri society fail to give such closeness to their children.

As a result, relationship between parents and children widens thus resulting in downfall of behaviour among the youths, which in turn becomes the most important reason for the increasing rate of crimes against women.

As such there is serious need for introspection in the roles of women in the society and the family.

She also urged the women of the state to pledge for a united society with love, courage and sincerity as the binding forces, on the occasion of Nupilal Day.

BCM vice president Laishram Amuba who presided over the occasion observed that Manipuri women, though they did not participated in the governance of Manipur, played important roles in the society and its economy.

Even today women are the backbone of the economy of the society.

They are the one that burn their midnight oil to carry out their roles towards the society as well as their families.

NYK Imphal West Co-ordinator L Chitra talked on the roles of women and youth towards the development of the society; and contribution of NYK towards youth.

Kodompokpi Gram PanchayatPradhan ThokchomInao graced the occasion as chief guest.

Kodompokpi GP Ward members Pebam Shantikumar and Wahengbamongbi Tababi were also present as guests of honour.

On the other hand, various organisations including AMKIL, Poirei Leimarol, Kanglamei, WACAK, KIL, TAmee Chingmee, Nupi Samaj, Chituwa, IKAL, MEPWAK, CLK, AMAWOVA and Kangleichal jointly organized the Nupi Lan commemoration function at THAU ground Imphal.

L Memchoubi Leima, president of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Lup Manipur; Y Leirik Leima, president of Kangleipak Lamjing Apunba Meira Lup; S Momon Leima, president, All Manipur Tammi Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup; M Purnimashi, president of Ching Tam United Women's Association; RK Tharaksana, President of Women's Association for Civic Action Kangleipak, and A Redimala, Advisor of Eramdam Kanba Apunba Lup graced the fnction as presidium members.

Social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram, presidium PANDAM Yumnamcha Dilipkumar, Prof MC Arun of Manipur University, president of Loushal Mutum Churamani, Associate Professor of DM College Dr Ch Shilaramani and Advocate Angomcha Araba were the resource persons in the observance.

The 75th Nupilal Memorial Day was observed by the All Manipur Muslim Women Cultural Organization at the office of the Organization to mark a remembrance of our women folk in the historic event of Nupilal.

The function was attended by Mumtaz Singamayum, president of All Manipur Muslim Women Cultural Organisation; Nazima Chowdhry, Social worker; Advisor of AMUCO KT Rahman; Kh Sirajuddin, president of MSF; MA Manan, principal of A Gani English chool; Haji Arafat, president of Muslim Council Manipur; Advocate Shahid Ahemad, president of All Manipur Muslim Development orgn; Basiran Bibi, oresident of Muslim Women Welfare Assn.

AMUCO Advisor, KT Rahman said that while the day is being commemorated to mark a respect to those women who have revolted against the Britishers on two separate incidents in 1904 and 1939, it is high time that Manipur women must come up with one such effort to wage a war against the social evils of our society like crime against women and drugs.

In the meantime, the Observance was also held at Elangbam Community Hall under the aegis of Meira-Paibi group of Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai along with a rally from the function venue to Pishumthong.

During the function, women activists B Amusana, M Keinatombi, Elangbam ongbi Ruhinisana attended as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
