Imphal, December 05 2010: Governor, Gurbachan Jagat Sunday expressed concern over disturbances given in education in Manipur by bandhs, blockades, strikes, etc.

He was speaking at the inaugural function of the 3rd Annual School Meet-2010 which opend today at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.

"�education to the students in Manipur is disturbed now and then due to bandhs, blockades, strikes, etc.

It should be of serious concern to all of us, and we should allow our students to study in their institutions in all academic sessions without breaks so that they should do well in their examinations," the Governor said.

If we fail now, our future will also be affected, he said appealing to all concerned not to disturb education under any circumstances considering the profound importance of education in the civilizational development of a nation.

Asserting that the people of the state in general and young boys and girls in particular, are lovers of sports and cultural activities, he stressed the need for exploring their hidden talents.

He further said that the meet will not only popularize the rare and very rich traditional art forms of the state to the youngsters, besides, it will provide a good opportunity to display their talents in their respective fields of games and sports.

Such efforts of the department deserve appreciation and encouragement by all, he added.

The third annual school meet-2010 of the Directorate of Education (School) kicked off today at Khuman Lampak Sport Complex.

The inaugural function of the meet (which will be continued till December 8) was presided over by Education minister, L Jayentakumar and MLA Bijoy Koijam attended as guest of honour.

The meet was first initiated in 2008-09 with the objective of nurturing close ties among the different communities residing in the state.

Around 81 students from different schools from all the nine districts of the state are participating in the meet.

During the meet students will compete in different sports disciplines by dividing them into two categories and there will be interactions and cultural programmes during the meet.

The sports open for competition by the students are football, volleyball, kho-kho, mukna, marathon, badminton, athletics and painting.

Symposiums and quiz contests will also be part of the meet.

During the meet students will be taken on sight-seeing tours to Manipur University, Kangla, Zoological Garden, Science Centre, Central Agricultural University and Adventure Park, etc.
