Imphal, December 05 2010:
The 12th Finance Commission had sanctioned a sum of Rs.67.3 crore out of the Rs.76.9 crore approved amount for the maintenance of roads in the state.
The utilisation certificate of the said amount has been submitted to the concerned authority, said N Loken, Chief Engineer, PWD in a press conference today.
He said that the report of mishandling Rs.354 crore meant for road maintenance published in some local newspapers is a false allegation.
The approved amount of road maintenance by the 12th Finance Commission is only Rs.76.9 crore not Rs.354 crore.
Out of these amount Rs.67.3 crore had been sanctioned and the utilization certificate of the same had also been submitted.
Chief Secretary, Finance Secretary and Secretary Works are the Chairman and members of the high level committee who gives the approval for funds for maintenance of roads under the 12th Finance Commission.
Over this committee there is also a Central Review Committee.
The amounts sanctioned for road maintenance under the 12th Finance Commission are
Rs.19.24 crore for 2006-07,
Rs.19.24 crore for 2007-08,
Rs.9.62 crore
for 2008-09 and
Rs.19.24 crore for 2009-2010 .
No amounts were sanctioned from this fund for the tour programmes of the Works Minister.
The 13th Finance Commission did not include funds for maintenance of government buildings.
So, there will be no repairing work of government office buildings for the next five years.
