Imphal, January 14 2026:
Ahead of the next State Assembly election which is due in 2027, the Manipur Youth League (MAYOL) would be holding a year-long campaign on conscientious voting under the theme "Politics: Vote for National Regeneration" .
Speaking to the media at their office at Pureiromba Khongnangkhong today, MAYOL president Asem Prince said that the campaign would be launched at Manipur University in association with the Manipur University Students' Union on January 16, 2026 .
He remarked that the situation of Manipur at present is quite disappointing and the whole society has been degenerating in every aspect.
Asem Prince said that one of the fundamental factors for the many ills and issues plaguing Manipur is the abstinence from politics by a large section of citizens and their disdain towards politics.
Noting that the three-year old violent conflict which erupted on May 3, 2023 cannot be resolved till date, he said that no satisfactory answer could be explored to the many ills and issues plaguing the State until and unless all the citizens know politics well.
A strong foundation for a citizen-centric politics can be laid only when citizens know politics well, he said.
When people know politics, they will elect sincere, dedicated and competent representatives, and there will be capable and visionary Governments, the MAYOL president said.
It's time for electorates of each and every Assembly segment to elect capable and honest representatives.
If the present trend of treating politics as a business enterprise and citizens' rights as a trading commodity is not checked effectively and urgently, Manipur will face a very bleak future, he said.
The youths of Manipur will face insurmountable challenges and Manipur itself will sink within 10-15 years, Prince warned.
The campaign aimed at ensuring free and fair elections will be held not only in the valley districts but also in the hill districts, he said.
He appealed to all local clubs, Meira Paibis, students, senior citizens, CSOs and the general public to support and join the campaign.
