Imphal, May 14 2026:
The Communist Party of India (CPI), Nambol Local Council held its 54th annual conference on Thursday at the residence of late party leader Mongjam Ritivandra, where party leaders voiced serious concern over the worsening law and order situation in Manipur and the continuing violence in the State.
Speaking during the conference, CPI Nambol in-charge M Joykumar questioned the failure to control armed Kuki militants, alleging that attacks initially targeting the Meitei community had now extended to the Naga community as well.
He stated that the inability to contain the violence has led to a steady deterioration of the situation in the State and demanded immediate measures to restore peace and security.
He added that even yesterday, three Thadou church leaders were killed, while a Naga civilian was also reportedly killed by suspected Kuki militants.
He further expressed concern over the increasing number of abduction cases in different parts of the State, saying the prevailing situation reflected the growing insecurity faced by the people of Manipur.
State Secretary of CPI Manipur State Council, A Nabachandra, along with several other party leaders, also addressed the gathering.
Later, Kh Ranbir presented the political report focusing on national and international political developments.
A condolence observance was also held in honour of the departed party members and civilians who lost their lives in the ongoing conflict in the State.
Meanwhile, the CPI Kumbi Local Council on Wednesday, convened its 50th annual conference at its office in Kumbi.
The conference was attended by CPI State Secretary, Athokpam Nabachandra; Bishnupur district secretary, Sharat; and State executive members K Bimol and Th Meghachandra.
During the conference, members deliberated on issues related to the Census and stressed that the Census exercise should only be conducted after proper identification of illegal immigrants.
A special resolution was also adopted stating that if Census 2026 is not conducted appropriately in accordance with the aspirations of the people, a large-scale public movement could emerge amid the prevailing turmoil in the State.
The conference also expressed anguish over the failure to apprehend those involved in the bomb attack at Tronglaobi that claimed the lives of two children.
Members alleged that the inability to arrest the perpetrators reflected the failure of the Home Department.
A resolution demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible and appropriate punishment under the law was unanimously passed.
The conference further demanded the government to formulate an effective policy to improve law and order and restore normalcy in Manipur.
