SHITDU observes Driver's Day with humanitarian outreach along NH-2

Kangpokpi, January 14 2026: In a meaningful observance of Driver's Day, the Sadar Hills Inland Transporters and Driver's Union (SHITDU) organized a humanitarian outreach programme by distributing drinking water, fruit juice, and eatables to inland transporters and drivers plying along National Highway-2 at Champhai.

The initiative was warmly received by drivers operating along the busy highway, many of whom expressed heartfelt gratitude to SHITDU for the thoughtful and compassionate gesture.

Several drivers noted that this was the first time in their experience that such an organized distribution was carried out on Driver's Day along this particular route, describing the act as both encouraging and moraleboosting.

Driver's Day, observed to honour the dedication, resilience, and sacrifices of drivers, serves as a reminder of the indispensable role they play in sustaining the supply chain and ensuring the uninterrupted movement of essential commodities.

Despite working under challenging conditions - often facing long hours, difficult terrain, security concerns, and inadequate rest facilities - drivers continue to remain the backbone of inland transportation and economic stability.

Speaking on the occasion, Lenpu Chongloi, spokesperson of SHITDU, extended warm greetings to all drivers on the occasion of Driver's Day.

He highlighted the crucial role played by drivers in transporting essential goods, especially during times of crisis and hardship, and acknowledged their contribution in keeping lifelines of the region functional.

He further appealed on behalf of the union to the public, authorities, and all stakeholders to respect, acknowledge, and recognize the role of drivers, and urged for greater cooperation and understanding towards them.
