Nupi Lan observed, tributes paid in state, beyond

Different organisations observed Nupi Lan Day remembering the heroic acts of women of the state, who fought against the mighty British and their colonial policies, across the state on Tuesday.
State Level Nupi Lan Ningshing Lamjel Organising Committee Singjamei organised its 32nd observance at Singjamei supermarket on Tuesday with RD&PR minister Yumnam Khemchand and committee president Sarungbam Medini attending as chief guest and president respectively.
Kabui Dharma Sabha Manipur former secretary Gangmei Sana Kabui and Salima Memcha of Thoubal Moijing were also present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Khemchand recalled the courage of Manipuri women against the British and reminded all concerned that the observance serves as a reminder to the present and future generations to follow the path of the brave Manipur women.
Considering the present situation in the state, the annual memorial run could not be held this time, he noted, while praying for early restoration of peace and normalcy in the state.
Committee president Medini hailed the role of women in preventing unwanted incidents in the current crisis.
Stating that there are many Kuki people, who want peaceful coexistence but could not raise their voice out of fear, she appealed to all to identify the real enemy of the state and defeat them through unity.
All Manipur Nupi Marup also organised its 85th observance at Loitang Khunou community hall.
Attending the event, National Women's Federation of India vice-president Maisnam Sakhi recalled the history of All Manipur Nupi Marup, which was founded with the support of Hijam Irabot in January, 1940 as Manipur Mahila Sammelan and later renamed as All Manipur Nupi Marup.
She also spoke on the significance of Nupi Lal in the history of the state.
CCPI Thoubal district local council also observed the day at its office with Dr M Nara and Y Dhananjoy as presidium members.
CPI local councils of Wangkhei and Yaiskul also observed the day by offering floral tributes to the bust of Ima Tongbram Sabi near Ningthem Pukhri Mapal.
BJP Patsoi Mandal observed the day at Tera Keithel with Patsoi MLA Sapam Kunjakeshwor as chief guest.
Recalling the courage of the brave women, who fought against the British, the MLA said that the same courage could be found among the women of the current generation, who stood against any form of injustice in the society and threat to the state.
Leima Chanu Nawa Tengbang Lup and Sangai Trust Foundation jointly observed the day by organising a free health camp under the supervision of RIMS head of medicine department professor Dr S Bhagyabati at Singjamei supermarket.
Shija Academy of Health Sciences assistant professor (Medicine) Dr Neha Thangjam assisted in ensuring proper conduct of the camp while pharmaceutical companies like Novamed, Eris, Lipun, and Sun provided the required medicines.
Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum, Tripura, in association with All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) observed the day as state level observance at Nupi Lan Complex, Khowai, Gouranagar, Tripura.
The 84th Nupi Lan Memorial Day Observation Committee, Tripura's convenor Khoisnam Birola, Tripura labour minister Tinku Roy, MLA Pinaki Das Choudhury, AMUCO vice-president Koijam Helen, general secretary Dr Norendro Thokchom, All Assam Manipuri Women's Literary and Cultural Organisation president Renuka Yumnam and Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum, Tripura president Ningombam Bira attended the event as presidium members.
Jaribon Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, Assam also observed the day at Thougal Marup Yaipha Shanglen, Hailakandi Laishram village.
Lup president Bimla Sharma, KIL secretary Samjetsabam Memcha, Thougal Maup Jaribon president Nepram Manindra, TLMSSM leader Yumnam Kamlini, UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam and IPSA vice-president Khuraijam Athouba attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, UCM president Joychandra recalled the courage of Manipuri women, who stood up against the British and observed that the present generation will remain indebted to the courageous mothers.
The observance is a reminder to the women of present generation to walk the path of justice, serve and steer the society to the right path while instilling courage to them.
He called upon the Manipuris living in different states and countries to strive for making the community proud.
Writer's Association Kakching also observed the day at the auditorium of Representatives of Lois (RoL) Kakching at Kakching Chumnang Leikai.
Mukta Shoes and Mukta Knitted Shoes Industry Kakching proprietor Padmashree Moirangthem Muktamani, Writer's Association Kakching president Pukhrambam Nimai, writer and ASHA worker Salam Bijaya and South East Manipur College Komlathabi assistant professor Dr Moirangthem Rasmani attended the commemorative event as presidium members.
Ningol Club, Heirok also observed the day as Nupigee Numit at Heirok part-II Mayai Leikai Community Hall with Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) president Th Manihar, Ningol Club president Kh Sophiya, FOCS vice-president BM Yaima Shah, Manipur Women's Federation president Kh Shini Leima, Heirok Apunba Club convener Th Roshan Luwang, Imagi Meira convener Th Sujata, Thawai Meerel co-convener P Sanahanbi and DLC Club Heirok part-II Mayai Leikai president N Roshan as the dais members.
DM University associate professor Dr Noni Arambam spoke on Nupi Lal and its significance in the present context, as resource person.
Leaders of different CSOs and Meira Paibi groups were honoured on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Singa Makha Leikai Welfare Club (SMWC), Yairipok Singa observed the day by organising a cleanliness drive.
In a statement, SMWC secretary Md Akbar Ali informed that they conducted the cleanliness drive as a mark of tribute to the heroism of Manipuri women, who stood up against the British rule.
He called upon the people of the state to uphold the tradition of bravery and fight against injustice.
Manipuri Literary Society also observed the day at Manipur Hindi Parishad hall, Imphal with former programme executive of AIR Imphal Ayung Raikhan, MB College Manipuri Department assistant professor Keisham Rani, and Thambal Marik College English Department assistant professor Khaidem Chaobi as dais members.
A poetry meet dedicated to the brave women of Nupi Lal was also held as part of the observance.
Manipur Legal Aid Organisation (MALAO) also observed the day by organising legal awareness camps in relief camps located at Hiyanglam and Wabagai.
MALAO advisor senior advocate Irom Lalitkumar and chairman Ngangom Tejkumar spoke as resource persons at the camps and informed the displaced persons that the organisation has been providing legal aid to the displaced families.
