Schools shut till Jul 24; caseload breaches 200 mark

Imphal, July 12 2022: In view of the spike in the number of Covid-19 positive cases in the state, all schools and anganwadi centres have been directed to cease conduct of regular classes with immediate effect till July 24.An order issued by Education (S) commissioner H Gyan Prakash pointed out that children below 12 years of age are yet to be vaccinated, thus, increasing their vulnerability to get infected by Covid-19 significantly.

As such, the schools are to remain close considering the health safety of the children.

On the other hand, Social Welfare director Ng Uttam has directed that all the Anganwadi centres and Creche centres in the state should remain close till July 24 .

Meanwhile, Tuesday reported 59 new positive cases of Covid-19 from 11 districts, out of 379 samples tested in the last 24 hours, and registered 15.57 per cent positivity rate.

The new cases took the active number of cases in the state to 216.The fresh infection on Tuesday is the highest daily new cases recorded in the state since February 21 while the test positivity rate is the highest since January 31.February 21 recorded 73 new cases and the daily new cases continue a downward trend since then.

On the other hand, January 31 reported 17.55 per cent daily positivity rate while the next day reported 15.30 per cent.

The 59 fresh cases (26 male & 33 female) are residents of Imphal West (25), Imphal East (21), Chandel (3), Senapati (2), Kamjong (2), Bishnupur (1), Kakching (1), Thoubal (1), Ukhrul (1), Noney (1) and Kangpokpi (1) districts.

Tuesday also reported 15 recoveries from home isolation but no death case.

Out of 216 active cases, 173 (80.09 per cent) are in home isolation.

Till date, the pandemic has claimed 2120 lives including seven CAPF personnel and infected 1,37,543 individuals including 5,014 CAPF personnel.

The virus has claimed the lives of 194 vaccinated people, out of which 61 had received second doses of Covid vaccines.

There are nine vacant beds available in JNIMS and 43 in RIMS.

So far, the state has recorded 298 positive cases since the beginning of the fourth wave of the pandemic.

The current month has reported 273 new positive cases.

The cumulative positivity rate for the current month is 9.88 per cent.

In the last 24 hours, 133 D-type and 19 B type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities and 2671 vaccine doses administered which took the cumulative number of vaccinated population to 15,98,827, out of which 12,67,469 had received second doses and 1,20,859 had taken precautionary doses.

As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (48900), Imphal East (30536), Thoubal (10169), Churachandpur (11062), Kangpokpi (3138), Tamenglong (3479), Bishnupur (9856), Senapati (2497), Ukhrul (3283), Kakching (6906), Chandel (2738), Noney (1162), Tengnoupal (1202), Jiribam (1111), Kamjong (1039), and Pherzawl (465) .

Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 44,326 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 31,016 CPM.

Test rate has improved to 5,21,254 tests per million population against the national average of 6,15,941 TPM.

Case fatality rate stands at 1.54 per cent and the recovery rate came down to 98.30 per cent.

The cumulative positivity rate stands 8.50 per cent.
