Tamenglong, October 01 2011: Old age persons in Tamenglong also observed International Old Age day at Indoor Stadium Tamenglong with Dihcham Pamei, Retired Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong and Joseph Pauline, ADM/ ED DRDA Tamenglong as Chief Guest and president of the function respectively.

The observance was organized by District Social Welfare department and Don Bosco Social Welfare and Allied NGO.

In his speech as chief guest Retired DC/ Tamenglong Dichamang Pamei said that in Zeliangrong Society older person are given due respect and their commands are obeyed.

In the olden times there was no violence, society was peaceful.

The present society, he said, has less respect for old age persons and look down upon them.

He said this has resulted in violence and jealousy.

People have no peace of mind and everywhere we find them fighting each other.

If old age person were to guide and rule the society, there will be peace of mind and society may develop, he added.

Giving his Presidential speech Joseph Pauline, ADM/ ED DRDA Tamenglong thanked God and termed the old age persons as 'Lucky persons'.

He said, you are all 'lucky persons' as you are able to grow old but many infant and adult have died without attaining old age.

Joseph also narrated how the government and social organizations have recognized the old age person and introduced a numbers of schemes for the benefit of old people.

He also narrated how the developed countries payrespect to the senior citizen.

In all 150 old age persons, one male eldest and woman were called up on the stage and presented award.

They are Guigongkamang (male) 92 years of Phalong village and Gaithaochungliu female 91 years of age of Nungba.

Each participant was also given a present this year.

Rev..NPalmei, Senior Pastor prayed over the participants to live longer and healthier.

One old age person RK Chingkhiulung thanked the government of India for awarding old age pension scheme.

While appealing to the concern authority to provide more facilities and more honorarium to the old age person RK Chingkhiulung said that old age persons are non capable of doing work any more and they need to be look after.
