Rally held against detention of students

Students of Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School today took out a rally demanding immediate release of the students who were arrested by the police during pro-ILPS stir.
Since morning, police personnel were deployed at the gate of the school to thwart unwanted incidents.
However, the students took out the rally from their school towards Cheirap Court complex at around 12.30 pm.
Although police tried to stop them at different places on Uripok-Kangchup road, the students managed to march up to Cheirap Court complex.
They shouted slogans like, 'we want ILP', 'we demand ILP', 'release arrested students' and 'convert the three Bills into Acts' .
A strong police team led by the Additional SP of Imphal West blocked the students near Cheirap Court complex and asked them to return to their school.
On their return towards their school, the students stopped at Sorbon Thingel where JAC members and locals have been carrying on a sit-in-protest demanding action against the police personnel who thrashed Tourangbam (O) Tarini.
The students joined the JAC members and locals in raising slogans like 'we condemn arrest of students', 'we condemn assault of woman by police', 'long live Manipur' and 'convert the three Bills into Acts' there.
As the situation became charged, the students and Uripok locals tried to block Uripok-Kangchup road.
However, the police team present at the area pushed all the protesters to the road side.
In the melee, six girl students went near a police Gypsy and got inside the vehicle in their bid to court arrest.
However, women police personnel pulled down the students from the vehicle and asked them to return to their school.
After a brief heated argument between the police and protesters, the students, locals and JAC members continued their stir at the makeshift shed built at Uripok Sorbon Thingel.
Police personnel were seen deployed there till late evening.
Meanwhile, students of Pioneer Academy, Palace compound stood in line from their school gate to Maharaja Bodhachandra College gate and raised pro-ILPS slogans today.
The students also held placards that read 'resign MPs, MLAs and Ministers immediately', 'we won't study until the arrested students are released' and 'we won't stop our movement till enforcement of ILPS' etc.
They also shouted slogans like 'safeguard indigenous people', 'implement ILPS', 'do not allow non-locals to cast vote' and 'do not allow non-locals to contest election' .
