Imphal, July 13 2023:
The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has urged the Central Government to expedite separate administration in the form of creation of a new State under Article 3 of the Indian Constitution.
Following its Cabinet meeting held on July 12, 2023 and the executive decision taken thereof, the KIM explicitly stated its demand for separate administration in the form of a separate State under Article 3 of the Indian Constitution.
A press release issued by KIM general secretary Khaikhohauh Gangte alleged that the State capital Imphal has been compartmentalised by the Meiteis by hounding off all the Kukis from Imphal valley after burning down their colonies/settlements and Churches.
Incidentally, all the Meiteis of Churachandpur, Moreh and Kangpokpi were first driven out by Kukis apart from burning down all the Meitei houses and temples.
The scale and intensity of the institutionalised violence reached catastrophic proportions wherein even elected representatives were not spared, let alone bureaucrats and police officers (Central and State services), said KIM.
The killings of the Kukis evidently shows that the ever-widening differences between the Kukis and the Meiteis remain irreconcilable.
At the same time, there are numerous reports of Kuki militants and their supporters, armed with sophisticated weapons, attacking Meitei settlements almost on a daily basis.
Many innocent Meitei villages and village defence volunteers have fallen victims to the Kuki militants' relentless offensive.
However, the KIM alleged that certain Acts like Protected Forest and Reserved Forest were forcibly imposed to usurp their land.
As a matter of fact, demographic/geographical separation has come into effect now.
It is therefore pertinent on the part of the Central Government to expedite separate administration in the form of creation of a new State under Article 3 of the Indian Constitution for lasting peace in the region, it added.
