Imphal, July 13 2023:
Highlighting the civil unrest witnessed in the State and subsequent shutdown of internet for over two months, the Manipur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has written to the Union Finance Minister to extend time limits for all compliances.
The MCCI's letter appealed to the Union Finance Minister to move the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Central Govt..and Central Board of Direct Taxes for extending all the dates for all the compliances across both direct and indirect taxes to ease out the burden of the public at large who otherwise will be facing another huge burden without any fault on their part.
Moreover, the public at large including the business community, shall also be placed under undue stress and difficult situation, if the dates are not extended as it will become practically impossible for all to complete the time bound compliances.
Hence to avoid the burden of late fees and penalties for non-compliances, this extension of all dates has become an acute necessity.
The MCCI further appealed to the Union Finance Minister to take up the issue of any special tax relief as deemed fit for Manipur as a special case at this hour of crisis.
There have been instances and precedents in the past where special reliefs were provided to State/States hit by any disaster or natural calamity for the general benefit of the public and Manipur at this hour is no exception to that and hence deserves that special relief by all yardstick, it said.
