Police launch probe into MSCB heist case

Even as the district police launched investigation into the Manipur State Cooperative Bank (MSCB), Kangpokpi Branch burglary case, civil bodies of Kangpokpi town condemned the thievery in the strongest term.
Stole six computer sets along with few other electronic gadgets including printer and hard drive of the CCTV camera installed at the MSCB were found stolen when the bank was reopened on July 11 after prolonged closure due to the unrest situation.
Though the cash vault was also found broken, no cash was looted as the branch had already taken out all the cash from it as well as from the ATM in the middle week of May, as instructed by the head office.
The bank branch is located in Ward No 17 of Kangpokpi town.
Following a complaint lodged to Kangpokpi Police Station by the Bank's branch deputy manager Ngaoni Dovei, a case was registered and an investigation already initiated, a police source conveyed.
It is worth mentioning that the MSCB Kangpokpi Branch has a history of money swindling by its own staff earlier in the past.
In connection with the burglary, members of Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Youth Union, and Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation carried out spot inspection on Thursday afternoon and also met with the officer-in-charge of Kangpokpi PS .
Town Committee joint secretary Lalkholen Kipgen said that since a police case has already been registered, the local bodies will extend maximum cooperation and support in nabbing the culprits involved at the earliest.
