NIA chargesheets three members from banned outfits

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday filed a charge sheet against three persons including a Myanmar National in a case of extortion by members of banned outfits in Manipur.
The charge sheet was filed before the NIA Special Court, Manipur yesterday against the three cadres of three different proscribed outfits who were arrested on January 13, 2023 from Moreh on the charge of raising and collecting funds for their respective outfits.
The accused, charged under various Sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), have been identified as Deepak Sharma alias Khinmaung (38) of Myanmar, Suraj Jasiwal (33) of Manipur and Saikhom Bruce Meetei (38), also from Manipur.
Deepak Sharma has been additionally charged under the Foreigners Act, 1946 .
The submitted charge sheet alleged that three of them had been raising and collecting the funds to further the activities of the proscribed organizations.
"Investigations so far have revealed that the cadres of the banned outfits had been making extortion calls to the people in different parts of the State to raise funds for their organizations and shared bank account details of their associates to deposit the extortion money," it claimed.
It may be mentioned that the NIA and Assam Rifles raided five locations at Moreh on January 13 last and busted a funding module of underground outfits.
During the raid, three of these accused were arrested along with Rs 30 lakh.
