CM bats for party discipline

Imphal, June 03 2020: Whoever the Minister or MLA is, irrespective of his or her party affiliation, those who are against the interests of the State will be dealt with appropriately action, said Chief Minister N Biren Singh today.

Speaking at a simple function held at the BJP office in Canchipur, where newly appointed State BJP president Saikhom Tikendra took charge from ex-president K Bhabandanda, the Chief Minister emphasised that even though the Government had faced some rough patches, there has always been discipline amongst the members.

He stressed that all should maintain discipline.

"As the Government is a coalition, there have been some issues owing to different party principles.

Most of the Ministers are new, and have little knowledge which issues and works are to be prioritised.

This has been causing some difficulties in managing the Government," he said adding he can't appease all (Ministers) while serving the people.

"People see only the surface.

The matter is quite different on the inside," he said adding running the coalition Government has been a mammoth task.

Maintaining he is doing all in his best capacity to successfully manage the Government and keep it intact, the Chief Minister said he will not tolerate anyone who is against the party's and State's interests.

"Whoever, the Minister or MLA is, irrespective of his or her party affiliation, those who are found without discipline working against the party and State's interests will not be tolerated.

They will be dealt appropriately," Biren said.

Highlighting the achievements of his three years tenure as Chief Minister, he said hills and valley are now united.

Maintaining his coalition Government has brought peace and order in the State, Biren said all should work in Nation's interest to shed all differences.

"As long as we give emphasis and importance to only our self, there will not be love between us," he said.

Speaking on the State BJP's plan for elections, he said the party should be strengthened before the general Assembly comes to get absolute majority.

Urging all to start towards strengthening the party and prepare for the elections, Biren said his Government and party should focus and work to address the commitments and promises made to the people.

Strict discipline should be maintained and there should not be any "groupism", he said.

On the other hand, the Chief Minister expressed concern that he has come across media houses publishing press statements of proscribed outfits in toto.

Terming the reports "unfortunate", he said that the BJP will not compromise with the State and Nation's interests.

Media houses should study the legal perspective of such press statements and edit before publishing, he said adding that the State is exploring possible legal actions against such statements/reports.

The State may file FIRs and take other legal measures regarding the reports, he said adding the party (BJP) may also take other legal course of action against the same.

The Government will not tolerate any anti-National elements, said N Biren.

Lauding BJP State unit ex-president K Bhabananda, the Chief Minister said that during his (Bhabananda) tenure as MP, the country took some bold decisions and the State witnessed major changes.

ILPS (Inner Line Permit System) was enforced in the State during his tenure and major decisions such as abolition of Article 370 and Ayodhya dispute was solved, he said.

Newly appointed BJP State president S Tikendra said that the party members and workers should maintain discipline and work together for common goal.

"There may be differences of opinion, but there should not be any indiscipline within the party.

The party will not tolerate those members who are against the party's interest," he said.

Works Minister Th Biswajit and ex-MP K Bhabananda also spoke at the event.
