Imphal, February 18 2014 : The two Manipur Bhavans in New Delhi have been established primarily to provide accommodation to people of the State while visiting the National Capital, but on the contrary, several rooms of Manipur Tikendrajit House located at Chanakyapuri have been found rented out to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for housing a 33 kilovolt transformer that supplies electricity to half of Chanakyapuri residents.

Some people who went to Delhi Manipur Bhavans told Hueiyen Lanpao that both Bhavans often do not have rooms to accommodate Manipuris, but have enough rooms to harbour the non-locals.

The people of the State feel better to find accommodation in some hotels rather than wasting their time and energy coming to the Bhavans only to be told that there is no more room vacant for accomodation.

Some aggrieved people of the State, who have investigated into the issue of non-availability of rooms at Manipur Bhavans discovered certain strange things at Tikendrajit House.

The two photographs carried by Hueiyen Lanpao have been emailed by those whistleblowers.

They said that the rooms constructed to provide accommodations to Manipur people have been converted into a power house to provide electricity to the locality of Chanakyapuri.

More than three rooms on the ground floor always remain closed.

The doors and windows of the rooms are also covered with thick metal sheets.

After a thorough investigation, a 33 kilovolt transformer has been found kept inside the locked rooms of Tikendrajit House for the last many years.

The transformer provides electricity to half of Chanakyapuri residents and many high and low powered tension wires are branched out from the rooms, the whistleblowers said.

They questioned the State authorities if it is permissible to house an electric transformer inside the residential rooms and how they have been rented out to MCD.

Such odd things clearly indicate that there is no competent authority to look after the Manipur Bhavans.

The State Government has appointed some senior IAS officers as Resident Commissioners, but they function only for namesake.

The non-locals are ruling over the two Manipur Bhavans.

Unfortunately, one lady MCS officer of General Administrative Department (GAD) was posted as DRC at Manipur Bhavan, but she was not provided any accommodation.

The non-locals made a conspiracy and ultimately drove out the lady officer from Manipur Bhavan, the whistleblowers alleged.

They further said that other states of the northeast manage their Bhavans quite well and their people always have good experiences while staying there.

The State Government should try to depute capable officers to run the Bhavans and cater the needs of people of the State rather allowing some gang of non-locals to uproot the sanctity of Manipur in the National Capital, they added.
