Chandel, February 18 2014 :
A security personnel on duty at the official residence of MLA of 42 A/C Chandel DK Korungthang allegedly misused his service weapon to misbehave and threaten President of Naga Students' Union Chandel, (NSUC) Sr Jonigam Anal while the student leader went to meet the MLA for submission of a letter.
According to Jonigam, the incident occurred in the morning of February 14 when he went to submit a letter to the MLA.
After identifying himself as the President of NSUC, Jonigam requested the security personnel to allow him to meet the MLA for giving the letter, or if the meeting with the MLA is possible, then at least allow him to leave the letter with the PRO or the Private Assistant of the MLA, the security personnel replied that he does not know what NSUC is and does not.
This led to an argument, during which Jonigam said told the security personnel that he would soon know what the President of NSUC could do.
At this, the security personnel pointed his service weapon at Jonigam and pulled the trigger.
However, some of people who were present there intervened and stopped the security personnel.
Recalling the incident to media persons today, Jonigam condemned the act of the security personnel and said that it was not just an insult to the Naga students alone but to the whole student community.
He demanded that appropriate action must be taken against the security guard before Feb 22 or else, NSUC would be compelled to launch intense agitation with the support of the people and other civil society organisations.
Meanwhile, the student leader has extended his best wishes to all the students appearing for HSE HSLCE 2014 and reiterated appeal to refrain from using unfair means in writing the examinations.
