Imphal, February 12, 2011:
Agitated students today flung text books at the Chief Minister's Bungalow and the Raj Bhavan registering a strong protest against the government's inaction to bring an end to the impasse with striking teachers.
Students of government schools have been pressing the state government to resume normalcy in their academic atmosphere which have remained disturbed since the teachers went on a fast unto death demanding adoption of revised pay bands of the sixth pay commission which employees of other departments under Manipur government are enjoying.
When the students flung their text books the Chief Minister was out of station.
The police drove the students away, whereupon they stormed the Raj Bhavan and threw their remaining books at the gate.
The Governor is currently out of station, in New Delhi on business.
The students acted after a meeting held at TG Higher Secondary School wherein a 'All Manipur High and Higher Secondary School Students Union Co-ordination Committee', was formed.
Convener elect K Herojit warned of intensifying agitations including burning down of school buildings if the state government fails to bring an agreement with the striking teachers and resume normal classes.
We have pleaded to the Chief Minister several times, without success, to make arrangements so that the academic atmosphere is not disturbed," he lamented.
Without teachers and without classes being condcuted, school buildings are not required, he warned.
Despite the jailings of teachers, more teachers are coming out to join the stir as another 10 teachers joined the stir today after police arrested 13 teachers yesterday.
