Pensionary benefits given to teachers on retirement day

For the first time in the history of Manipur, 27 teachers who got retired from service were provided with pensionary benefits on the day of their retirement itself today.
The retired teachers belong to ZEO-Zone I and IV.
Their pensionary benefits were handed over to them by Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro, who paid due respect to the teachers for their contribution to the society.
The handing over of pensionary benefits was held at the office of ZEO Zone I at Khuyathong Pukhri Achouba Mapal today.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Minister M Okendro said that the people of the state have been depending on other states in every field.
However, the people of the state would not be dependent on others in the field of education and the government would do everything possible to make this come true.
The Minister informed that the state government is at present encountering a deficit of Rs 30 crores in education sector.
So, proposal has been placed for increasing funds earmarked for education under the state budget.
Funds for development of roads and bridges can wait.
However, funds for development of education in the state cannot be delayed under any circumstances, the Minister observed.
Stating that let bygone be bygone, the Minister assured that from now on teachers who got retired from service would be provided their Provisional Pensions on day of their retirement and this trend would continue in future as well.
All the benefits of the teachers will be provided to them without any delay, he added.
Highlighting other reformative measures to be taken up in education sector, the Minister informed that biometric system would be used to record the attendance of teachers, and the problems faced by teachers who have been appointed as Head-in-charge but not given full power, would be rectified.
To do justice to the teachers, selection of Head Masters and Assistant Head Masters would be done through MPSC.
The contract works for the constructions of schools would be stopped.
The office of SCERT DIET presently located inside the campus of DM College would be shifted to Lamphel and the office of ZEO Zone-I would be relocated inside DM College campus.
However, since the place cannot be a permanent office of ZEO Zone I, a permanent place would be sought, he added.
Stressing on the need to develop infrastructure of the educational institutions in the state to prevent students from going outside for further studies, the Education Minister reiterated that to bring about a change in the system of education in the state, suggestions from public would be accorded due importance.
Furthermore, the Education Minister disclosed that he has been selected as member of sub-committee of the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE), which is the highest body related to education in the country.
W Rajen, Additional Director, Education (S); Ph Ibopishak, Chief Commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Girls Guide and L Rameshwar, President of COTA were among other dignitaries who were present during the function.
