Rich tributes were paid to former Prime Minister of the country, Indira Gandhi, on her 26th death anniversary as the state also joined in the observance of the day as National Dedication Day.
The state level observance function held at 1st Manipur Rifles was attended by Chief Minister, O Ibobi as chief guest.
Power minister T Phungjathong presided the function in which IFCD minister N Biren, Agriculture minister N Loken, Deputy Speaker of state Assembly, Th Lokeshwor and MLAs and officials of the state government attended.
Speaking as chief guest of the observance function, Chief Minister, O Ibobi said that to strengthen the unity and work for it with sacrifice will be the true tribute given to the former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.
He recalled Indira Gandhi as a person dedicated for the unity of the country.
She worked for the country will future vision.
She also worked for the upliftment of the weaker section of the society.
Not only she sacrificed her life for the national integrity but also worked for international peace.
She took a major role in the effort to keep peace in the globe.
Her sacrificing spirit for the integrity of the nation needs to be possessed by every citizen of the country.
To reaffirm the commitment for strengthening the unity of the nation will be the true tribute paid to the former leader of the nation, Ibobi said.
In this speech as president, power minister, Phungjathang called for a concerted effort for peace and prosperities of the state while remembering Indira Gandhi as symbol of peace and integrity of nation.
"Let us build up a united strength to bring our society forward and take part in the development of the country," he said.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) also remembered the former Prime Minister with a function at Imphal Congress Bhavan in coincide with 125th foundation day of the Congress party.
Chief Minister, O Ibobi graced the function as chief guest which was presided by MPCC president Gaikhangam.
Ministers and MLAs of MPCC took part in the observance function.
Congress workers led by Chief Minister and MPCC president took oath for strengthening the unity and integrity of the country after floral tributes were paid to the photograph of the former Prime Minister.
