Imphal, August 29 2023:
As the much-awaited one-day monsoon session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly has failed to adopt any substantive resolution to save Manipur and its people, the Manipur People's Party has maintained that there is no reason for the current BJP led State Government to remain in power.
A statement issued by Paonam Khaba, general secretary, MPP has maintained that today's disappointing Assembly session has dashed the hopes of indigenous people who wanted the State legislators to take a firm stand against the alleged bid by Kuki militants to occupy the land of the indigenous people and balkanise Manipur.
As the BJP led Government has failed to pass any resolutions to mitigate the hardships faced by indigenous people of Manipur, there is no logical reason for the BJP led Government to stay in power in the State, MPP said.
Those who have been elected by the people to represent them and safeguard the interests of Manipur, namely the MLAs, should resign from office if they are incapable of fulfilling these duties.
It is very unfortunate for the indigenous people of Manipur that an Assembly session, which is supposed to discuss the current, evolving as well as future state of affairs has been adjourned without deliberating on a single item relating to the welfare of the public, MPP continued to say.
It further added that the BJP Government continues to mislead the people by claiming that 'peace is returning in Manipur' when reportedly the people in foothill areas continue to suffer the brunt of heavy attacks.
In this regard, MPP pointed out that today a farmer at Naranseina sustained bullet injuries in an attack carried out by Kuki militants.
Notably, MPP also raised questions about the creation of 'buffer zones' in the areas between the hill and valley, which have supposedly divided the State.
It demanded the BJP Government to issue a clarification on the matter as buffer zones are mostly set up between two different countries during war times and not within the boundaries of a State.
