Imphal, August 29 2023:
Strongly condemning unprovoked firing by Kuki militants towards farmers who were working in their fields, LOUSAL president Mutum Churamani has questioned as to why Kuki militants are allowed to fire towards the farmers despite the formation of State Monitoring Committee.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday, Churamani expressed strong resentment over farmer Salam Jotin suffering injury when Kuki militants fired at him while he was preprating to apply insecticide in his paddy field located at Naransena Low Canal paddyfield around 6 am on Tuesday.
The attack on Jotin creates panic among farmers and people residing in peripheral valley areas and accordingly government must work towards removing this fear.
To enable farmers to work in their paddyfields without any fear, the State Monitoring Committee was formed on July 10 but the attack on farmer Jotin has rendered the committee meaningless, he said and urged the government to make security arrangement as per the committee to ensure safety of farmers while working in their paddy fields.
