Imphal, August 29 2023:
The state government has charged the Congress party with disrupting the Manipur Legislative Assembly session held on Tuesday which fed to adjournment of the session without any opportunity to discuss the current situation in the state.
Addressing a press conference at the auditorium of DIPR here on Tuesday afternoon, a ministerial team led by works minister Govindas Konthoujam levelled the charges against the five-member opposition Congress.
Law and education minister Th Basantakumar said that as per the Rule No 271 of the Rules of Procedures and Conduct of Business of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, the order of business of the day, which had been decided by the Business Advisory Committee, can be changed orally by the leader of the House.
He expressed that due to the disturbances by the Opposition during the session, important and pressing issues of the state could not be discussed.
Before the Speaker of the House could say anything, all the opposition members stood up and created chaos with noise, due to which, the Speaker had no choice but to adjourn the House so that they can go back, rethink and comeback and take up the matter in a civilised way.
The House resumed after half an hour, but the Congress MLAs did not allow to discuss the important issues of the day, he added.
Basantakumar also alleged that the opposition members even disrupted the obituary references made in honour of the deceased former members of the House and those who were killed in the current crisis.
They also disrupted the Parliament session during the recent session, he said while adding that opposition always wanted to bring President's Rule in the state and to divide Manipur.
Responding to questions about the absence of 10 Kuki MLAs and follow up action from the party, works minister Govindas said that BJP is a national party and decision for taking up any actions against any of the party members will be taken by the Central leaders.
IPR minister Dr Sapam Ranjan, MLAs Kh Joykisan, Kh Ibomcha and Th Shanti were also present at the press briefing.
