Village authorities refute allegations

Churachandpur, January 22 2024: The Chief Chairman of Laimanai Kabui Village and Sadu Khoiroi Village issued a clarification regarding the allegation of the gunfire from Nagas inhabited areas in connection with the unfortunate incident where four Meitei individuals were gunned down by suspected Kuki militants at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou Water Supply.

The village authorities of the above mentioned villages in a press note appealed to all communities, especially those in conflict not to drag the Rongmei community, but rather respect and honour the sentiments of the people as the villagers abide by its principle of social harmony and peaceful co-existence.

The press note said, 'Irresponsible statements from other communities blaming Rongmei Naga are uncalled for as they lead to a trust deficit amongst the communities of the area' .

It is suspected that the Kuki militants might have sneaked in through the thickness of jungles/bushes between the villages where there is no habitation at all, it added.

'Unfortunately, the two villagers are vulnerable and conducive to easily being considered as part and parcel of those militants by valley people which was circulated in some social and print media', said the press note.

In view of the above, the two villages declared that trespassing in Rongmei villages by any community meant to cause harm/casualties is strictly prohibited and cautioned that defaulters or trespassers will be reiterated with customary laws.
