Two found dead near border fence at Moreh

Moreh, April 10 2013: Two persons including a commando personnel have been found dead near the border fence of Govajang village.

A group of nine people went for fishing on four two-wheelers to Maklang river in Myanmar at about 9.45 am yesterday.

The group included Thangjam Ahanjao Meitei (28) s/o Maipak Meitei of Moreh Ward No 5, Khaidem Deban (37), Chanambam Anil (38) s/o Rajmohon of Moreh Ward No 5, Sorokhaibam Bhogendro (30) s/o Muhindro of Moreh Ward No 4, Paonam Bhim (28) s/o late Iboyaima of Moreh Ward No 4, Paonam Monte (29) s/o late Iboyaima of Moreh Ward No 4, Seleibam Tanu (24) s/o late Heramani of Moreh Ward No 4, Aheibam Dinesh (28) s/o late Bidhu of Moreh Ward No 3 and Birjit Singh.

Birjit was a commando personnel posted at Moreh.

A rally taken out to denounce the killing of two persons

As the group did not return till late evening last night, their families were waiting for their return anxiously.

But this morning, it was informed that two persons were found dead near the border fencing of Govajang village under Moreh Block.

Soon a police team led by Moreh SDPO H Balram rushed to the spot and it was confirmed that the deceased were Chanambam Anil s/o Rajmohon of Moreh Ward No 5 and commando personnel Birjit Singh.

Police picked up the corpses and sent them to Imphal for post mortem and other necessary procedure.

The remaining seven of the group who went for fishing returned to Moreh in the afternoon.

Later, a public rally was taken out starting from Moreh Ward No 4 Meitei Leikai.

The protesters carried placards which read as "What were the faults of Anil and Birjit ?", "We condemn killing of innocent people", "We will not accept fabricated and posthumous charges", "Don't invite civil war", "Stop gun culture" etc.

The rally was participated by people of different communities and members of the Hill Tribal Council Moreh, Kuki Women Union and Human Rights Moreh, Meitei Council Moreh, Tamil Sangam Moreh, Manipuri Muslim Council Moreh, Muslim Women Development Association Moreh, Minority Women Development Society Moreh, Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup Moreh and Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup Moreh.

The protest rally was followed by a public meeting later in the evening.
