Tamenglong, September 26 2024:
Zeliangrong Civil Organisations (ZCOs) have strongly urged the Government to address the grievances of the landowners affected by the ongoing construction of Tamenglong-Mahur Road.
ZCOs comprises of Zeliangrong Baudi, Zeliangrong Youth Front and Zeliangrong Students' Union, as per a press release issued by the Media and Publicity Cell of Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland).
Stating that the Government should provide alternative means to replace the loss and damage to properties suffered by the landowners by extending commensurate compensation in accordance with the law, the ZCOs statement added that the concerned authority had misled the land owners prior to actual commencement of work despite the enactment and enforcement of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 .
Thus, it urged the Government to take strong disciplinary action against the responsible officials for failing to discharge their assigned duties and responsibilities as per provisions of law which has now resulted in hampering the work progress.
Maintaining that the affected landowners would not have launched protests and agitations if they had been properly informed on time about their legitimate rights and entitlements, the ZCOs statement asserted that it is the duty and responsibility of the Government and the concerned authority in particular to address the demands of the affected land owners.
It added that land owners from specific Zeliangrong territories should not be deprived of the right to get compensation while land owners from other section of the entire stretch of Tamenglong-Mahur Road are entitled to the same compensation.
