Imphal, May 14 2026:
Expressing deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation, the Manipur Naga Youth Organisation (MNYO) has appealed to all communities, civil society organisations, and stakeholders to collectively work towards restoring peace and stability in the conflict-ridden State.
In a statement, the MNYO said it strongly condemns the killing and abduction of civilians.
The abduction of civilians including a merely 2 year old child is deeply disturbing and heartbreaking, said the MNYO holding Kuki militants responsible and demanding unconditional and immediate release of the child and all innocent civilians currently in captivity.
The organisation further stated that similar instances of abduction, intimidation, targeted violence, and harassment of innocent civilians have occurred over the past months.
It said the continued apathy, negligence, and failure of the Government of India to take firm, impartial, and effective action against armed elements are only aggravating the situation further and emboldening militant groups to operate with impunity.
The MNYO said it also strongly condemns the cold-blooded murder of Wilson Thanga at Joujangtek Kuki village and three religious workers belonging to the Thadou community in Kuki-dominated areas on May 13 in separate incidents of ambush.
"Attempting to falsely shift the blame onto the Nagas without any credible evidence is highly irresponsible, provocative, and appears to be a deliberate attempt to invite further turmoil and communal unrest in the already fragile State," it said.
At this critical juncture, all stakeholders must prioritise peace, coexistence, mutual respect, and reconciliation over violence and hostility, it said, cautioning every community and organisation in Manipur against actions, propaganda, and narratives that may further divide the people.
It said armed miscreants and vested interest groups must refrain from concocting false historical narratives and spreading propaganda or unrealistic dreams surrounding "Kukiland," which remains completely unacceptable to the indigenous communities of Manipur.
It alleged instances of Kuki armed individuals and militants openly brandishing sophisticated weapons and moving alongside CAPF personnel have been clearly witnessed in several video footage circulating widely on social media and WhatsApp platforms.
It urged the Government to immediately disarm and confine cadres of all Suspension of Operation (SoO) groups to their designated camps in strict adherence to the ground rules of the agreement.
The MNYO also appealed to the Government to provide adequate compensation and fitting ex-gratia to the families of the deceased and all injured victims affected by the ongoing violence and unrest.
It conveyed wishes for the speedy recovery of all injured in the recent incidents, and urged all citizens to use social media responsibly and refrain from spreading unverified allegations, misinformation, hate speech, or blaming any organisation or community without proper verification and evidence.
Lasting peace can only be achieved through justice, accountability, sincerity, and mutual respect among all communities inhabiting the State, it added.
