Imphal, May 14 2026:
As Naga-Kuki tensions remain at an all time high with two deadly ambushes reported yesterday alone, many have condemned the Joujangtek attack which took the life of Wilson Thanga and left a civilian couple injured.
In a statement, Nungba AC MLA and HAC Chairman Dinganglung Gangmei strongly condemned the cowardly and inhumane act.
He offered his condolences to the bereaved family while also wishing a speedy recovery to the two injured persons- Olive Jatung and Aroma Jatung.
He assured the public that every possible effort will be made to identify the culprits and bring them to justice in accordance with the law.
From the Government's side, ex-gratia assistance for the deceased as well as full support for those injured will be arranged, he added.
At the same time, he appealed to the public to exercise restraint and refrain from spreading unverified information, rumours, or false allegations that may further aggravate the situation and disturb communal harmony.
Meanwhile, the Foothills Naga Co-ordination Committee (FNCC), Imphal has called the heinous act against unarmed villagers returning from their paddy fields a direct assault on humanity, peace, and the fundamental right to life.
Targeting innocent civilians engaged in their daily livelihood activities is a cowardly and unforgivable crime.
Such acts of violence only deepen fear, hatred, and instability in society.
No cause or ideology can ever justify the shedding of innocent blood, said FNCC .
It has also unequivocally condemned the barbaric, unlawful, and inhumane act allegedly committed by certain individuals from Leilon Vaiphei Village in detaining innocent residents of Konsaram Naga Village and others as hostages "without any valid justification" .
It has demanded the immediate, unconditional, and safe release of all innocent persons being held.
Any harm caused to the detainees will be viewed with the utmost seriousness, and full responsibility shall rest entirely upon those involved in this unlawful act, added FNCC .
It has also appealed to the Government and the concerned authorities to intervene without delay and take swift and decisive action against those responsible to ensure that law and order is maintained, before the situation further deteriorates into a larger conflict.
Condemning the act of violence, the Naga People's Union, Imphal has termed the attack on farmers and innocent villagers at Joujangtek an attack on "our shared future, our peace and our right to live and work without fear" .
NPUI has appealed to the authorities to ensure justice for the victims, provide adequate medical care for the injured and take immediate steps to restore security in areas so that no more lives are lost.
The organisations have also wished for the speedy recovery of Olive Jatung and Aroma Jatung and offered their condolences to the family of Wilson Thanga, the Chiru Naga people and the people of Dolang Village.
Both FNCC and NPUI have called for collective rejection of violence and urged all stakeholders to stand together for peace, justice, communal harmony and coexistence.
