Ukhrul, February 12 2024:
Rev Zaklei Kaping, Pastor of Phungyo Baptist Church (PBC) inaugurated a newly established Alice Pre-school constructed by Phungyo Women Society (PWS), Ukhrul at Rayotang today.
Pastor Rev Kaping first consecrated the preschool by invoking special prayers, cut the ribbon and formally declared the Alice Pre-school opened for child education.
Chairperson of PWS Yakleiphy Shaiza in her keynote speech highlighted the main objectives of opening the Pre-School in Ukhrul.
The pre-school is named after the wife of the first Christian Missionary Rev William Pettigrew who arrived in Ukhrul/Hunphun village in 1894 and eventually brought western education in Ukhrul district especially to the Tangkhul Naga tribe.
Notably, Alice Goreham introduced pre-school in the village and in order to keep alive his legacy, PWS has established the pre-school as a mark of gratitude to the Western missionary who had dedicated their life for the community.
Yakleiphy further mentioned that the pre-school would be a stress-free and fun-filled learning centre for children and is established under the motto "Play, Learn and Grow" .
Alice pre-school would be run by experienced Montessori teachers and will be supervised by PWS Chairperson.
A cradle for every child and tiffins will be provided to all enrolled students.
It is worth noting that over 19 children have been admitted on the opening day of the school.
The inauguration programme was also attended by Phungyo Women Society leaders, parents, children and well-wishers.
