Kanglasha adjudged Manipur Idol 2011

The series of district level music events organised as a part of multimedia campaign concluded at BOAT yesterday.
The event culminated with 20 music bands including last year's winner and one band from Network of Positive People Manipur (NPM) showcasing their talents through music at the grand finale of Red Ribbon Superstar Manipur Idol 2010-11 .
Kanglasha was crowned as Manipur Idol 2010-11 and Chem Weed FM adjudged second best band.
The groups were richer by Rs 40,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.
Wishes of Bishnupur got the prestigious prize of best vocalist and the individual prizes for best guitarist, drummer, bassist were won by Chem Weed FM.
Minister of Health and Family Welfare, L Jayentakumar Singh, Project Director of MACS, Pradeep Kumar Jha and H&FW Commissioner Vumlunmang were present on the occasion as presidium members.
The grand finale was supported by MACS and the event was managed by Oriental Pumpkin.
The campaign aims to capitalise on the popularity of local entertainment avenues among youth like music concerts and sports, especially soccer.
The campaign primarily targets the youth between the age group of 15-29 years.
The objective is to increase support and commitment towards HIV and AIDS prevention, increase awareness on issues around HIV and AIDS and reduced stigma and discrimination towards PLHIV, enhance risk perception and promote safe behaviour, promote condom use and increase utilisation of services like Integrated Counselling & Testing centres (ICTC), Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission (PPTCT), ART, Drop-in-Centres (DIC), Helpline, Community Care Centre (CCC) .
The campaign was initiated at the District level.
Entries were invited from the local bands based in the districts.
Two best bands from the districts were selected through the process of auditioning.
Participating bands are required to compose a song with a message around HIV and AIDS and perform a popular number of their choice and a song with HIV and AIDS messaging.
The two best performing bands were selected per district for the state level event.
Individual cash prizes for the best vocalist, best drummer, best guitarist and best bassist were given at each event of the district event.
The participating bands at the district level were imparted knowledge and life skills education thereby reducing their own vulnerability musicians' vulnerability to HIV is high which is being facilitated by highly prevalent drug abuse & unsafe sex.
At the state level event the bands performed a popular number of their choice and a song on HIV and AIDS theme.
After the completion of the grand finale the winning band along with the winning district level bands will go down to the Block level and carry out music road shows and spread awareness on HIV and AIDS.
They will perform 20 roadshows at 20 Blocks in the State.
Along with the music shows many activities like quiz, skits will be performed to take the messages further.
The audiences will also be given information about the various services available on HIV and AIDS.
